What greater mark songs such as Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, compared with contemporary songs?
What qualities of the older songs, like Rodgers and Hammerstein, who have been out of contemporary songs? Many modern songs are nice, but the material that are not only classics. What is the difference?
In my opinion, because "classic songs" (songs that stand the test time) were written by composers who were the real theory of music chops to create strong musical concepts. The analogy that comes to mind is the literature. Classic literature (eg Shakespeare, for example) is timeless because the author was a master of language. Music, like literature, is communication, and if not spend time learning the nuances of how to communicate ideas and feelings, the message is somewhat confusing. "But, silence!" What light shone through the window? communicators is much more powerful than, "Hey!" Who's that hottie in the window there? Polished know that if the two options give a similar vein, is both more powerful and more akin to the concept of being communicated. The other point is that had the classic songs are great songs that work even without words. Many contemporary composers spend more time trying to create "throat" working on the melody. Take "My Favorite Things" as a example. All you need to listen only to the interpretation of Coltrane to hear how incredibly deep the "tongue" of this song. You Can hear the melody, with or without words, and there is still a powerful sense. Just my opinion … Good question!
